Course Introduction
If you are interested in the Law and aspire to a career in a legal setting, then this course might be for you. It is more practical than A Level Law but it has a lot of the same content. It is great preparation for a degree in Law, Criminology, or Policing or for one of the many Law-related apprenticeships available. It is a good option for students who enjoy coursework as the coursework units are very vocational, helping to develop the skills you will need in the workplace. The course is also enhanced with work placements, visiting speakers, trips and excursions.
Course Modules
The course modules for Applied Law are:
- Dispute Solving in Civil Law
- Investigating Aspects of Criminal Law and the Legal System
- Applying the Law
- Plus one other unit of our choice
Assessment
Assessment for the course is a combination of exam, coursework and controlled assessment with pre-released material.
Students are given information about cases prior to the exams/controlled assessments and they will work on those cases just like a solicitor would.
Course Fact
The synoptic unit, Applying the Law, involves preparing ‘client advice’ from two criminal reports. This is a great ‘real life’ activity that prepares students for work in a legal setting.
