Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the https://s6f.ac.uk website.

Scarborough Sixth Form College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change to grayscale, change contrast, and switch the sitewide font to Verdana (which is regarded as one of the most accessible fonts)
  • Zoom in up to 200%
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Underline all links for legibility

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Compliance Status

This website is compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. Below are some areas that were noted by the WAVE audit that we carried out.

Accessibility Audit (25th April 2025)

The audit identified two contrast errors, which upon review, were determined not to be actual accessibility issues. These errors result from WAVE's inability to fully interpret dynamic visual elements, but manual checks confirm that the contrast ratios meet WCAG standards.

In addition, several alerts were generated, which have been carefully considered. These alerts do not indicate violations but reflect aspects of the website's design or content management system (CMS). Where relevant, these alerts are intentional, such as multiple links to the same destination or the use of auto-generated captions for YouTube videos, which have been reviewed for accuracy.

• Two contrast errors were identified by the WAVE tool; however, manual verification confirms that the white text, supported by a black drop shadow over an animated SVG background, meets WCAG 2.1 AA and AAA contrast requirements. These flags result from WAVE’s inability to fully interpret rendered visual effects of the SVG. No accessibility issue is present.

• WCAG 2.4.4 - WAVE flagged a "Redundant Link" alert due to multiple links directing to the same destination. This is intentional: one link is provided via a primary call-to-action button, and another is included contextually within page content. This structure supports different user journeys and improves accessibility by offering multiple, relevant access points.

Multiple Pages

Example page - https://s6f.ac.uk/student-life/wellbeing

• WCAG 2.4.4 - Some pages contain multiple instances of links directing to the same destination. This is intentional and reflects the page structure, where links are placed in multiple relevant sections to support user navigation and ensure important information is accessible wherever contextually appropriate. This practice enhances usability and accessibility by providing users with clear and repeated pathways to key content.

Example page - https://s6f.ac.uk/new-students/preview

• WCAG 1.2.2 - WAVE identified an alert regarding the captioning of YouTube video content. All embedded videos use YouTube’s auto-generated captioning feature. Each video has been manually reviewed to verify that captions are present, synchronized, and sufficiently accurate to meet accessibility expectations. Where necessary, any inaccuracies have been addressed or confirmed to not impact understanding.

Courses Page

• WCAG 2.4.4 - A "Suspicious Links" alert was generated due to both the title and the preview image linking to the same subpage. This is a design choice based on the structure of the CMS, which provides multiple ways for users to navigate to the same destination. The use of both the title and image as links is intentional and aligns with standard usability practices, enhancing accessibility by offering users multiple, contextually relevant options for navigation.

• WCAG 2.4.4 - A "Redundant Links" alert was triggered due to both the title and preview image linking to the same subpage. This is intentional, as the design is structured to provide users with multiple, relevant pathways to access the same content. By offering both a text link and an image link, we enhance navigation and accessibility, catering to different user preferences and ensuring ease of access.
