Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 including English Language and/or Maths

Subject Intent

This course aims to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, values, and resilience to make a positive contribution to the world in which they live. Sport is one of the fastest growing global industries making it an exciting time to get involved.

A dynamic and inclusive programme will develop positive attitudes towards healthy active lifestyles, helping our students to become confident, ambitious, lifelong advocates of sport.

It will act as a stepping stone to a range of occupations inspiring many to establish careers in this sector. We work closely with universities and employers to ensure our learners are equipped with skills they need to progress into higher education or directly into the workplace.

Course Introduction

If you’re passionate about sport and considering a career in the industry, then this course is ideal. You can choose to study it as a single, double or triple Applied General allowing you the flexibility to design a study programme to suit your specific needs.

Sports is a high achieving department offering sports leadership qualifications, a great choice of recreational sport, and academy performance pathways alongside your academic programme.

Course Modules

Single (Certificate) - equivalent to one A Level

  • Exercise, Health & Lifestyle
  • Principles of Anatomy & Physiology
  • Preparing for Careers in Sport & Physical Activity
  • Fitness testing
  • Research project
  • Biomechanics

Double (Diploma) - equivalent to two A Levels

All single units plus:

  • Assessing Risk in Sport
  • Team Sports
  • Leadership in Sport
  • Sports Coaching
  • Psychology for Sports Performance
  • Sports Nutrition

Triple (Extended Diploma) - equivalent to three A Levels

All single & double units plus:

  • Organising events
  • Individual Sports
  • The Athletes Lifestyle
  • Work Experience in Sport
  • Instructing Physical Activity
  • Sports Injuries

Assessment

The course is 100% internal assessment, there are no external examinations on this course. Students create a portfolio of work containing written assignments, presentations, research projects, analytical reports and evidence of practical performance. We work closely with universities to ensure our students are equipped to meet their requirements.

Course Fact

There is the opportunity to travel to Sweden to take part in an educational exchange and to Malta to gain volunteering experience abroad.
