Travel & Tourism - Single | Double

“Travel & tourism has given me a much deeper understanding of the industry and fuelled my passion for travelling”.

Subject Intent

Travel and tourism is one of the world’s largest industries, responsible for 333 million jobs, that’s one in ten jobs globally and is the fastest growing sector in Britain. Living in a high tourism area gives the course a unique link to real-life scenarios on our doorstep. This course provides the skills, knowledge, and experience to continue onto higher education or progress directly into industry related employment or training such as cabin crew.

Course Introduction

Travel & Tourism will give you an excellent foundation for a career in the travel industry. With Scarborough and Yorkshire being one of the top holiday destinations in the UK, we live in the perfect place to put your knowledge and understanding of the industry to good use, making you extremely employable. Alternatively, if you want to travel, this qualification is ideal. We have former students now working all over the world as cabin crew, resort representatives, and hotel managers. Students also develop a “wanderlust” and look to travel in the future.

The course examines the UK travel industry studying cabin crew, visitor attractions, and careers in tourism. This is a hands-on course in which you will develop excellent transferable skills, learning to present information in a fun and informative way. We visit local attractions such as Flamingo Land, Scarborough Castle, and South Bay, as well as local hotels such as Palm Court and The Grand Hotel. We use these visits to embed the theoretical knowledge from a practical perspective, working with local businesses to guide you into specific travel careers.

In addition to gaining travel industry knowledge, you will develop your organisational skills, as well as the ability to work to deadlines and as part of a team. You will also have lots of opportunities to master research and presentation skills which are valued by both universities and the travel industry.
